The Walker family has been in the agriculture business since the late 60’s starting off with Bartley’s father, Charlie Walker, who moved to the Salinas Valley from the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee. Bartley was born and raised in the Salinas area, and graduated North Salinas High, before earning a bachelor’s degree in Ag Management and Marketing from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.

Bartley worked a few years on the Sales desk at a local produce company, Tanimura & Antle, eventually being promoted to Value Added Product Manager. Bartley left Tanimura & Antle in 1995 to join forces with his father selling and renting farm equipment at Salinas Equipment Distributors (SED), until they sold SED to RDO, the largest John Deere Dealer in the US.

After the 2 year non-compete expired, Charlie started another tractor rental business in 2001 called Pacific Ag Rentals (PAR). Bartley left RDO in January of 2001 and joined his father in their new business venture that continues to this day. Charlie passed away in 2010 leaving Bartley and the Team to carry on the fight.

From the initial start of 2 tractors on Charlie’s kitchen table, now the fleet has grown to over 3,500 pieces of equipment, serving growers across a million acres of farmland in California, Arizona, Nevada, Washington, Oregon, Georgia, Florida, and Mexico.

In 2017 PAR decided to dive deeper into technology and refined the company’s focus on identifying, purchasing, renting, and supporting new technologies that are making a positive impact in agriculture. This process allows smaller farmers to have access to the latest technologies and allows “All Ships to Rise” in the rising tide of technology.

Bartley lives with his wife Wendy and their son Jamison in the Salinas Valley.
