About WSU College of Agricultural, Human, and Natural Resource Sciences

The faculty, staff, students, and alumni of WSU’s College of Agricultural, Human, and Natural Resource Sciences extend science and knowledge to serve Washington and the world. Our work creates healthy communities, families, and children, sustains the economy and the environment, and continually advances the science and practice of agriculture, keeping producers competitive and feeding a growing world populace.
For six generations, since our ancestor college started instruction on January 13, 1892, minds in CAHNRS have engaged in discovery that improves the food we grow, the clothing we wear, and the industries and resources we depend upon. CAHNRS has the largest state presence of any college at WSU, with 13 schools and departments, three Extension Program Units, four Research and Extension Centers located across Washington, and Extension offices serving 39 counties and several Tribal nations.
Our discovery is funded by federal, state, industry, and community partners, as well as many passionate donors.
Learning in CAHNRS encompasses all aspects of the agricultural sciences, from Agricultural Education to Viticulture and Enology, as well as academic programs in Apparel, Merchandising, Design and Textiles, Human Development, Economic Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Animal Sciences, and Food Science.
The CAHNRS learning experience revolves around a solid foundation of basic and
discipline-based content; experiences that bring learning to life; and opportunities to engage with researchers, industry professionals, and alumni.
CAHNRS is an innovator in the areas of genetics, data, and technology. Experts in our college discover, develop, and transfer knowledge that contributes to a safe and abundant food supply; promotes stronger and more competitive agricultural and economic systems; supports energy innovations; encourages careful stewardship of natural resources; and enhances the well-being of individuals, families, and communities.
With 40 locations throughout the state, WSU Extension is the front door to the university. Extension educators translate world-class research into hands-on practice to help create thriving communities, families, and individuals. WSU Extension serves over 1.2 million people across Washington, and Extension volunteers contribute over 300,000 hours in service to their communities annually. 4-H Youth Development engages almost 36,000 youth yearly, helping cultivate the next generation of leaders, innovators, and community stewards.
WSU is the birthplace of the Master Gardener volunteer movement educating gardeners across North America and several counties internationally.
