The robotic pruner consists of a UR5e robotic arm (Universal Robots) mounted on a Warthog unmanned ground vehicle (Clearpath Robotics). The robotic arm is equipped with a camera system and a cutting tool. During operation, branches are manually positioned in front of the camera, and the robotic arm uses AI-based vision to identify the appropriate cutting points and guide the cutting tool to the designated locations.
Adjacent to the robotic pruner, we plan to have a structure supporting 4 mock trees equipped with sensors and actuators used in the WSU Smart Farms.
