About Maria Isabel Zamora

Dr. María Zamora Re is an Assistant Professor and Statewide Extension Irrigation Specialist in Biological & Ecological Engineering at Oregon State University. Her integrated research and Extension program focuses on improving agricultural water management through applied irrigation engineering, sensing, evapotranspiration monitoring, automation, and decision-support technologies.

Her work spans diverse crops and regions across Oregon and emphasizes developing and evaluating practical, cost-effective approaches that can help growers make more informed irrigation decisions. She collaborates closely with producers, industry, commodity groups, water managers, and university partners to test technologies under real-world conditions and translate research findings into tools, guidance, demonstrations, and educational programs.

A central goal of her program is to improve how irrigation technologies and data are evaluated and used in practice. Her work focuses on selected sensing, monitoring, and decision-support tools, with an emphasis on practical application under real-world conditions. Through this work, she aims to support more efficient, resilient, and sustainable agricultural water management while strengthening connections between research, Extension, and stakeholder needs.
