Julie Tarara grew up in New England and started working on farms during high school and college. During college, she went on a farmers’ exchange program to France, cementing her interest. She graduated with a BS in Horticulture from Kansas State University, before running off to England as a British Marshall Scholar. Returning to Kansas, she earned a PhD in Agronomy, which in turn brought her to eastern Washington to work as a research scientist for USDA-Agricultural Research Service in Prosser. After a lively adventure in USDA, she moved to the wine industry as a viticulturist for a decade. Today she is the Research Program Manager for the Washington State Wine Commission, which represents all wineries and all wine grape growers in the state. When not geeking out on wine grapes, Julie likes to ski, backpack, and hike around Washington’s Cascades.
